Mr. Franklin Burns brings more than two decades of educational experience, leadership, and student advocacy to Kūlia Academy. Throughout his career, he has served as a teacher, mentor, administrator, counselor, and school leader, helping students and families achieve success through high expectations, strong relationships, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Mr. Burns earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston Downtown and a Master of Education from Grand Canyon University. His extensive educational background has provided him with expertise in curriculum development, instructional leadership, student engagement, and family partnerships.

Prior to joining Kūlia Academy, Mr. Burns served as a teacher with the Hawaiʻi Department of Education, where he developed engaging learning experiences, monitored student growth, collaborated with colleagues, and built strong relationships with families. Earlier in his career, he taught in Texas public schools and held leadership positions supporting students, educators, and school communities.

Mr. Burns also served as Principal, Director of Education, and Executive Director of Saint Tower Academy, where he oversaw school operations, instructional programs, personnel management, strategic planning, community partnerships, and student achievement initiatives. His leadership experience gives him a unique perspective on creating positive learning environments that support both academic excellence and character development.

Throughout his career, Mr. Burns has been recognized for his dedication to education and student success. He was named Teacher of the Year by QuickSchools and has received recognition for his commitment to mentorship, instructional innovation, and educational leadership. His work has consistently focused on helping students build confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve their full potential.

At Kūlia Academy, Mr. Burns teaches English Language Arts and Social Studies, helping students strengthen their reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking skills while developing a deeper understanding of history, society, and the world around them. His broad educational experience and passion for student success help create engaging learning experiences that prepare students for college, careers, and responsible citizenship.
